Both of my hamsters emit a white secretion from their genital area. I'm just wondering what this is? I'm unsure of what sex or breed they are....someone said they were boys but I'm thinking they might be girls. I do have pics if anyone needs them to positively identify them. Thanks.
I'm posting these photos for Dawg, in response to his original question above, located at this thread Hamsters emittin secretion Post (http://www.petshub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17555) It was getting bogged down with computer difficulities, so I decided to start this thread fresh for ya!

While the hamsters are not large... I would say that you have two young Syrian hamsters. Obviously from these photos we cannot determine gender... but from your description in your previous post, it is probably safe to assume that they are both female.
You will want to separate them once they reach sexual maturity since they will fight.
Your hamsters are beautiful! Congrats!

Tha for posting my photos. Yes at the time I kept them in the same cage but after seeing them fight one too many times I now have them seperated. It was usually the fatter one picking on the skinnier one. Also the fatter one was a glutton and at times acted selfish around the other one. The fatter one is the one sitting up in the lower pic.
So we can positively identify these as Syrians eh? That's cool. The breeder said they were called "Fancy Hamsters". Not too sure what he meant by that.

To me, they look like regular golden hamsters, although they could be teddy bear's.

"Fancy" just means that they were bred for a certain look.
It really isn't a "type" of hamster just a description.

They are female longhaired blackeyed creams. The hamster in my icon is a short-haired version. Their coats probably look a tad darker in life- a trick of the flash.

Yes the flash did make it's belly look lighter than normal. Although I think their bellies are slightly lighter than their backs.
Teddy bear hamsters....where did that name come from? And that's considered a Syrian right?

Yup,
Teddy bears, Panda Bears, Black Bears and Golden are all different names for Syrian Hamsters.
(I'm sure that there are others that I'm forgetting)
Syrian Hamsters are the larger kind, they grow to about 5" long... Dwarfs are smaller only about 3" - 4" long.
They just call them these names, since it is what they kinda resemble. Teddy Bear hamsters often have longer hair, black bears are black, panda bears have markings similar to that of a panda.... etc...

Pretty colors! :)
After a litter (an accident; I do not breed) I was keeping the sisters with each other as I moved them to separate bins. By about 6-7 weeks I still had two sisters together - and I sometimes saw one chase and bully the other who looked real scared. So i separated them right away.
I have some of those same kind of wheels - Van Ness. Most of my hams got too big for them after awhile.

Perhaps my Syrian is just huge.. but does anyone else here have problems finding wheels and houses etc.. that fit their Syrians, and still fit in the cages that are produced for them?
I've finally broken down and built a Plastic Tub cage for her, since she seemed too big for her cage. Her previous cage was one of those three story wire cages. She got too big for both the wheel and house that cage with the cage. (She knocked the top off the house every time she went inside *lol*). She really needed an 8" wheel... but I couldn't find one with a solid running surface that would fit in the cage... grr..
I'm frustrated that the toys and products sold for hamsters don't seem large enough to fit a full grown Syrian.

That's how mine are.....one is a bully and the other acts very scared.
