I work at an animal shelter- and I see my fair share of cruelty and injustices towards animals- but these take the cake.
I must warn you that some photos may be upsetting...

Man. That was awful :( I always wanted to work with animals, I almost had a job at the local shelter but had to put the breaks on when they asked me if I had a problem putting 100-150 dogs and cats to sleep a day. OMG yes I have a HUGE problem with that. The only answer is for me to have my own shelter one day, a no kill one. It's a small shelter (the one I applied at), but if you are taking only the cute looking animals in and trying to find owners/new homes, you will end up putting people's animals to sleep. That is a guilt I could never live with, I couldn't live with the guilt of killing any animal for that matter, no matter the reasoning.

Unfortunately, the shelter that I work at is not a no-kill shelter. It would be great to work at one that had strong support in the community. We get lots of donations of food, toys, and money. But unfortunately we sometimes run out of room... Now don;t be thinking that animals are put down because of space!! I have heard of shelters that do that- but we don't. Eventually, when the shelter is overcrowded illnesses start to spread...
We also do requested euthanasias for the public, but it is still our decision as they animals must be surrendered to us first. Sometimes, people want thier animal put down for the strangest reasons, and if we don't agree the animal stays with us.
Our problem is, is that we have alot of approved foster homes for mom's and kittens, but not for large dogs. We did have a program at the provincial jail, but when we transported some dogs to the facility we were told that they had cancelled the program. In fact, the entire facility was closing immediately!!
So for those of you out there that would like to help your local shelter. but do not have the money- try fostering. I don't know how the program works everywhere, but at our shelter we provide the food, dishes, leashes, collars, shampoos, toys, etc... you just provide the time and socialization.

that is so sad! I can't believe people would just sit and watch their animals starve and suffer. I mean I dont get why the heck people go out and buy a dog if theyre going to ignore, or abuse it. I mean what is the freaking point?! I cant stand the picture of the cats and dogs piled up in trash cans. Its so sad to see these animals whose only mistake was being born. I mean they could have had a family that would give them a happy life and took proper care of it. They could have had a warm bed to curl up on instead of sleeping on ice cold bars of a cage. I just want to do to those people what they did to the animals. I mean this may sound very cruel, but i think that they should punish those people by doing to them what they did to those animals. They should deprive the people of food until they plead for mercy THEN wait a couple days to feed them.

I agree HugAPug that people that mistreat their animals should be treated the same way for awhile. I'm always being lamblasted by my family because of the way treat my dogs. They are of the mind that dogs are dogs and do not have feelings. And my feelings are that while dogs ARE dogs, and therefore would not thrive being treated as people are (food, etc...), they were MY choice to get- they did not have a choice about living with me. Therefore I have a greater responsibility towards them, their health, and happiness is equally important to me as my own. I could not imagine doing something to them that would make them wish death over spending one more day with me...

You need to copy and paste it into a browser. It's pretty awful.

Sorry, I don't know how to create a direct link to a website. I know that it can be done, but I have no idea how....
But, like HeatherP, said if you highlight the url, copy it (i think 'control C' works on most computers) and then paste it into the address bar ('control' V), you should be able to find it..
Good luck! Although the pictures are very disturbing- the website has a good message.

I saw that- very unfair if others are staying as well. But maybe the numbers were against her? It seemed to be a 'group thing' to get her out. I will miss her :(
Perhaps we shouldn't be meeting like this:
I'll meet you in the alley behind the store tonight  You know the password. I must go- they are on to me!!!

Rather sad that trolls get banned, but completely immature 'grown-ups' stay. Main problem is Griff didn't report them for harassment. And seeing how the Get the griff thread was removed it's hard to report them now.. except for the copies in my email hahahahaha. I think we should have a Trolls agaist rude people thing going, hunt them down and watch everything they say and then report them for harassment and being rude to people. After all this is suppose to be a friendly forum.
I honestly hope none of them have children, you would have the authorities banging on your door if you talked to you own kids like that.. Well, except for THX but we know how it works over there in asia. She's probably one of those by me drinky girls anyway :D
I think I will have to put in a sig.. Stupid People Shouldn't Breed, spay/neuter your partner!

And my dad wonders why I plan on setting up a no-kill rescue when I have the money/time/space. He's also of the mindset of "It's a dog. Period." But he has been watching Animal Precinct with me, and we've had discussions about the policies and the dogs, and he agrees that dogs that are being abused need to be removed. He doesn't agree that they need harsher punishments for animals abusers...keeps on pointing out that if they go to jail they'll lose their job, etc, etc...I just don't respond, but as far as I'm concerned, if you can't hold your temper enough to keep from beating a dog to death/throwing it off a roof/shooting it/setting it on fire/abandoning it in an apartment/insert other torture that you see in Animal Precinct and Animal Cops, you really don't deserve to get off with just a fine.

That's too bad about Griff being banned. I liked her! If you can't joke about eating bunnies then, darn it, what CAN you joke about?
I'm all for dogs to be treated like people, especially if you brought them into your home in the first place. My boyfriend doesn't think that Max should be allowed to sleep in bed with us ("He's a dog, he likes his house(kennel), he sleeps on the floor all the time, this way he can get a drink at night.") but when he's out of town I let Max sleep in the bed with me anyway. Max doesn't mind sleeping in his kennel, but he LOVES sleeping in my bed.
I watch animal cops/animal precinct when I catch it, and it always makes me wish I had more money so I could buy a HUGE house with a HUGE amount of acreage around it so I could adopt and care for all the abused animals ever. Not many things can make me cry, but the condition of some of those animals gets me bawling. I couldn't handle that job, mostly because I would probably toss one of those owners into the cage that the dog was just in and leave him there for a few days with no food after tasering him a few times. I think I'd probably get in trouble for that, more than just a stupid fine. I saw one where a dog was nearly frozen to death in Chicago I think, and I actually had to find Max and sit there and hug him.

Ohh I want a large shelter too, no kill with the most state- of- art vet center the world has seen, a place for all of god's creatures who don't have a home.. yep, the includes homeless people. But to stay there they will have to help with the care of the critters and maybe it will get them on their feet so they can help others. Kinda like, what is avilable in the vet clinic will be there for all the vets in the area to take advantage of, but they must donate their time to the 'free' clinic to use it and they can't charge people some insane cost for the tests, after all, I would have been the one to have bought it, not them so saying it's to cover the cost of such expencive equipment will be a crock hehe. I will also be going after pet food companies, those people make a killing! They can donate large amounts of pet food with out blinking an eye, if they wanted too. There will be food/toy boxes at x-mas and hoildays set up in stores (kinda like how they do for people) and angel trees for 'orphan' pets. There will be a petshop, profits going to help support the haven and a free clinic for those who can't afford even basic animal care. I will have this place one day come hell or high water, I have put alot of thought into how it would work, how it will run and how it will be staffed, I even have a name picked out lol. It's my dream. So, when I get published, everyone go out and buy my books!!!! They will be how I get the money to start this thing (lets face it, I am looking at something that will cost millions to do, I will however be bullying rich companies in to do a good deed and helping out with labour and building supplies lol Who knows, maybe if I get really lucky, I can put PETA out of business lol cripes, with their yearly budge I could have this place in NO time! Sole will be working there, and Griffy too lol err maybe :))

Count me in!! It would be nice to have a never ending source of money or resources to pull something like this off (and be able to work with you and Griff :p ). There is a santuary in Utah that I would love to go and see:

Your idea about the angel tree is a great one- you always see them around for the Salvation Army. But putting one up in an animal supply store for a shelter?! What an awesome idea- do you mind if I 'borrow' it for X-Mas this year?

Oh I saw a show about this place on animal planet. I have to agree, I can't think of a better use for a sacred canyon than that place. Pretty cool they have a website I can book mark hehehe
I hope you use the idea every x-mas, and donation boxes (and put 'em at every store that sells pet supplies, people out doing groceries might think hey, x-tra can of dog food won't hurt...) We shouldn't call them homeless, call them orphans :)
