My slim syrian finally keep her baby alive... Previously got twice deliver baby but all end up in her stomach. This morning, she give birth again and the baby still alive and looks red... I have seprated her with other hamster. I also give her fresh milk, bread, usual food. To prevent her and her baby from getting cold, I also give her some extra hay and woodchips! This few day have been rainning so i also cover the cage with cloths, to keep them warm. :nurse:
So now I cannot touch them till 18day later. During this period of time, wat should I do to make sure both mother and baby is healthy? and keep baby alive? :stork-boy
Need ur help... thank! :hamster1:

Ah... withholding the urge to question your breeding intentions...
She is going to need tons of extra protien and iron foods in addition to her regular mix- to keep up her strength, help her make milk, rebuild her blood after giving birth. The best thing you can do is jsut leave them alone. No oise, don't touch, let her feel safe and quiet.
Did I understand that you had her in with another hamster until just now? Syrians cannot live together. That is probably a lot to do with her other babies being eaten. She will eat them if she thinks they are not safe- in danger from you or another hamster or ANYTHING that worries her.
Please read here to learn more about taking care of the babies and mom:

I apologize, Francis for using your post for this, but it is necessary...
Revenge... I do not understand your aggression toward me. Did I do something to offend you? As I see it here- I do not know what she knows- and you do not know what she doesn't know- so it is better to offer MORE help than not enough. Besides, Petswebsite is an excellent site- Lorraine Hill has published many books on hamsters- it is a good reference point for ANY hamster owner- new or old.
Anyway, whatever your problem is, Revenge, I don't have time for your targeting. I am here to help and to learn- I suggest you do the same and leave people alone otherwise.

Revenge, Chris knows what he is talking about. If you scoop them up with a spoon, then you are not passing your scent onto the babies. As long as you are only scooping them up to clean the cage out, then you will be fine.

i just clean the cage yesterday. Everything seem to be ok, after cleaning the cage, the mother still take care them. I realise that when i scoop the baby to the other place, the mother seem to be scare, she was trying to put them place to the orginal place.
Now my baby hamster being to eat the hard boiled egg that i give to the mother. THey seem to enjoy it. Since this is the case, i mash the egg for both mother and baby to eat,Is this ok?
From birth till now, baby and mother are always together. The mother seem to be always having wet flur (baby urina), is this ok? Will it cos any problem?

2 days ago, the mother dunno why take 4 baby downstairs and leave 3 upstairs. I see the mother very busy go up and down so i take the 3 down to the mother.
today is already 12days old (baby), they are yet to open their eyes, but i think within a few days it will open....
I realise that the baby eat alot, i have to feed them abt 3 to 4 times a day. Each time with 1/4 of hard boiled egg, 1/2 picses of bread, 2 tablespoon of hamster mix food and mother's milk(mother hamster). They seem to be growing fat now, very healthy. But is the baby over-eat?
Eversince the mother give birth till now, she is very naughty, whenever we wan to put the food in the cage, she will try to bit us. Is it becoz she wanted to protect her baby?
Thank
