I have been offered "miniature himalayan hamsters"
I have no knowledge of this breed or can find such breed in a search. I used to have cream & a banded, i guess regular hamsters, bought at a pet store. But anyway this lady talks of them as if they are a special breed. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

There's no such thing- that *I* know of. Though there are 26 breeds of hamster known to man, only 5 have been domesticated. None of hte hamster breeds domesticated come from as far South as the Himalayans. I imagine it is some ridiculous cosmetic name like Teddy Bears or Honey Bears. There certainly wouldn't be any such thing as a 'miniature' breed of any hamster. There are syrians and then there are dwarves. With dwarves you have Campbells, Winter Whites, Chinese (which are actually rat-like hasmters, but are commonly called dwarves) and then the Roborovskis. My guess what you are being offered are Robos- which are very desirable- not available everywhere- and very special, cute, unique in their own right. I think, though, if a new breed of hamster had been domesticated, it would have been available in the UK way before here.

Here is an excellent link to check out all hamster breeds and colours:

My guess that its a dwarf hamster and she is calling it a miniture so that you will want it. I'm new to dwarf hamster owning but its been fun watching them and learning about them. They are the cutest little things.

when that lady meant by himalayan is because petstores come up with these names just for the people to buy it

My motherinlaw went ahead and bought 2 hamsters from that lady.I wanted to do research on them before she bought them, because I had never heard of that type.
Well, now we have 2 very small hamsters. Smaller than any I've ever seen! I measured them. They are lil' over 8cm/about
2 1/2 inches. They have the coloring of a wild rabbit, kinda silvery tan, with a black stripe down the backbone.Their under sides are white. They're tails & paws have white fur,the ears are the same color as the rest of their fur. I do know that they are both female ! Thank goodness. The lady got one over on MIL sold her 2 hamsters & 2 cages, but oh well, We now have 2 lil hammies to learn about & love.
