Can Gerbils and hamsters be kept together?

I would not reccomend trying this as it could mean death to one or both little creature. They are not known to cohabitate in the wild and are very different little animals. I have known someone who tried mice and hamsters once....before I was able to tell them not to and the hamsters were killed as was one of the mice. Please do not do it. Sure there are exceptions to the rule and all but it is not worth the possibility of casualitys. Marianne

PLEASE don't! Hmasters are solitary animals...they can live together when they are babies, but when they mature they will KILL any other hamsters in their territory; I assume gerbils would be goners as well. It is always a bad idea to mix species...keep you hamster in it's own seperate cage. your gerbil, however, if it is still young, would benefit from another gerbil friend- they are very social animals.

oh my gosh no!! The hamster will kill the gerbil or vice versa. You cannot keep them with any other animals other than their own species...not even that for hamsters! Gerbils do need companions, but of their own species...and sex unless you want babies.
