I always recommend the havahart humane traps, they have worked for me over and over! I've caught a dwarf hamster a few syrian hamsters, and a couple of mice (the mice were an accident).. and it works great.
I posted a link to the website of havahart on the post above... they are also available at certain ACE hardware stores.
Good Luck!

Thank you very much halogengirlie for your advice, but he came out on his own!!! :) thank god!!!! He was lost for about 2 hours.....my mom went into my room and looked down the vent and baby talked down it (my hammie loves it when you baby talk to him lol) and then she left for a sec and came back, and he was sitting beside the vent!!!! all i can say is thank god!!

Oh that's great!
I don't know if you lose your critters often (I sure did when I was a younger!!!) If this doesn't happen often then I wouldn't worry... but if you are like I was, you might want to get one of those traps just for emergencies.
I used mine at least 4 times for hamsters... and my parents used it countless times to catch mice and chimpmunks that were pestering them. *lol*
So happy that he returned to you!!

well i'm 18, and this was the 1st time this has ever happened....I normally never leave him alone, but I needed to clean his cage, and my mom was out walking our dog....she usually watched him when i clean his cage

>> He was lost for about 2 hours <<
I posted earlier about one of mine who was missing for ten DAYS! Although I spotted little Dion a few times scurrying about but I couldn't catch him. I finally left empty flower pots on their sides with food and waited. He eventually was heard, and then I saw his rear end sticking out of a pot. I sneaked up and grabbed the pot and we were reunited. He looked just fine even after ten days. I left food and water out, of course.
Glad you found yours. :)

well i was so scared of him getting out of my room, because I have a 120 pound dog and a puppy who would probably hurt him if they ever found him :(

I'm so glad you found him - 2 hours is not very long, but it sure is long enough to scare you. I bet you are relieved!

I had a hamster lost for 7 days once. Guess where I found her? Inside a wall. She went through my closet, and into my attack, fell all the way down to the first floor, and was stuck in the wall. My dad was not too happy when he had to cut a hole into the wall.

my hamster escaped twice before and my room was a mess so I thought I would never find her. I had clothes and junk all over the floor and she was no where to be found but I left food out and BAM she was right there both times. I cleaned up my room for future reference. If your vent is on the floor and it can be unscrewed try putting a screen in it so he can't get lost in it.

well the vent does have a screen over it, but my bedpost had made a hole in it just big enough for him to get through....I didnt even notice it before....thank god he came out...I dont even know what I would have done

Look for it in certain hiding places like your t-shirts pants or socks they hide into anything they could find and if its in the laundry and the laundry is being washed (you don't want to know the rest)
