i would leave her alone in her cage and let her get use dto her enviroment for about 5-7 days you should try putting your hand in her cage and let her get used to it htere don't make sudden movements or she'll get scared...also i heard that you could ball your fists and stuf fso that they can't bite you? someone correct me if i'm wrong!

I agree. Leave the hamster alone for about 1 week, so he or she can get used to his or her new surroundings. Make sure to offer a lot of treats, as by doing this you are making your hammie happy, and you are getting the hamster used to your scent.

Actually hamsters who are not hand tamed can be skiddish.
My suggestion is to pick her up more, play with her..the sooner she feels safe the better it will be for both of you!
If u can get a small little area dedicated to her.
like a play pen or something, she will warm up quickly.

she is hand tamed shes very freindly when i do pick her up...if it was a matter of her being a night person wouldnt she then be sleeping in her house all day instead of out in the open squeaking at me

Not nessicarily, My hamster is male and he is awake until dinner time usually and sleep off and on, it all depends on how it feels, hamsters are nocturnal animals but if it feels for attention or wants something it will squeak at u to let ya know. Also, they have a high sense of when something is wrong so chances are if u are having a bad day or upset or even when u have a really great day it senses it and wants to give u all its love.. some hamsters are just hyper active and sleep only a few hours and get up then go back to sleep, but they do get excited if u are home and they can get your attention.

Hello. I found a book you might be interested in.
"Training Your Pet Hamster"
Published by Barons. ISBN 0-7641-2013-1
There are alot of good tips in there.
They say you should make sure you have washed with a scent free soap, and then prior to handling the hamster, you should rub your hand in the bedding so you hand has a familiar scent.
They also say to put a sunflower seed, or any other small treat between your fore and middle finger, and hold it out like a platform, and they should crawl out onto your hand to get the treat.
Hope this helps.

Patience.
Always talk to your hammy! Use a soothing voice. The may never understand most of the words, but the tone will be comforting, and they will associate it with safety, and fod if you give them the occasional treat.
Be sure they have peace and quiet at night and a box to hide in. Let them wake up when they feel like it.
I have five dwarfs and seven Syrians (plus another seven month old Syrians) and everyone can be kissed on the nose they are so tame.

Patience is the key. And never surprise them.
Cinnamon, an extremely tame and gentle hamster, NEVER hissed in the year I have had her - except the time my bunny accidentally stepped into her bin. I thought a snake had gotten loose until I saw it was her!

I've never heard a hamster hiss.. when I got Sanka at the petstore the guy woke her up and she made a noise of great complaint at him, but she didn't squeak or hiss. Although as soon as he scooped her up she was fine. I held her right then and there and she was great. She'd let you put her on her back and rub her belly for a minute.
She only bit me once, and it was then I realized how hard they really could bite. She had been loose in the house for about a week and had gotten in the air unit and my hand smelled like food so she took a bite. I couldn't blame her, I got her fed and cleaned up and she never bit or made angry noises again.
Just remember to make all your experiences with your hamster positive. If it associates you with fun/treats it will soon come running when you come over.

TiaMaria, you talking about dwarfs or Syrians??
Almost all my Syrians are sleep for LONG periods during the day; the dwarfs are a little more like what you described.
