Hello again,

My tiel is about 3 months old from a breeder. These last few nights, at about 7:30 (an hour before bed-time) he will sit on his playground and face his cage. Whenever I approach him, he makes a CONSTANT 'static' noise. About 1 minute after I step away from him, he stops. He just sits there on his playground facing his cage. He will even sleep there.

I thought maybe he wants attention, but he will not come to me, he actually scoots away (usually he will come to me during the day) and may try to bite. I take him up to his cage and he hesitantly goes in. All the while making a constant 'static' noise .

He used to go to bed by himself....

Please help!!

Thanks

That's weird... I don't think I've ever heard of a bird doing that before. Try putting him to bed earlier and see if that does anything. He might be affected by the time changing (sun rising later and setting earlier).

Are you sure it's not like a hissing noise? My cockatiel gets cranky when he's tired and makes a noise a hissing noise (although now that I think about it it seems simular to what static sounds like) and so I put him to bed.
Plus since he's so young he may actually be crying for food. I would call the breeder and ask her. I know from personal experience that it is hard work to wean birds ( I have hand fed many cockatiels) and sometimes they may not be ready to eat completely on their own or they are just crying to see if you'll give in and feed them because they know that they can get more faster with the feeding formula then on their own.
We had this stuborn cockatoo at my work that wouldn't stop crying even though she was maintaining her wait and her crop was full ( little pouch at the base of their neck that hold food). I actually started giving her scrambled eggs and apples to show her that by eating on her own she could try all kinds of great tastes. She was hooked with the scrambled eggs and although she still cried every once in a while it pretty much stopped and of course she grew out of it.
