HI,

I have rencently taken over a 75 gallon saltwater fish tank with live rock and fish. The people that I got it from were a little neglectful on the water changes and I have been suffering from high than normal nitrate levels since. I have been doing daily water changes and using de-nitrate rock in the Fluval 404 canister filter. I have recently found out that the local tap water is really bad, so I started using RO water (reverse osmosis). I have been using this water for the past week and I have really have seen NO improvement in the water qualityt and/or nitrate levels. I am kind of in the frustrated mode. I have several anemones at the local pet store becuase my water quality sucks. ANY AND ALL ADVISE WOULD BE GREAT!!!

I had alot of trouble with my salt water tanks when I mixed salt, Petco sells water straight from the ocean its costly 5gal for $10 I tell everyone about it because I test only once a week and havent had ANY trouble the 2years I had my tank running with this water, you dont need to test the water no where near as much as you do when you mix salt. Also you can mix this water with your water you have in your tank now. Just thought Id let you know you can go to their website if your intrested and read more about it. www.catalinawater.com. Also if you put your protein skimmer on high that might help.

The only bad thing about getting ocean water near the shore is that is has a lot of pollutants in it.

Yeah when I had my salt tank I lived in Florida, so I got water (and critters) from the island shores and beaches.

One of my friend used the boxed saltwater from Petco and he said it was fabulous. You could try it and see what happens! Good luck!
