Sounds like a great goal to have! Take some buisness courses in school, do well in math and accounting wouldn't hurt.

Also see about doing a little vet stuff, maybe school for smallo animals? You could be your own vet for the small animals.

Also volenteer with the shelters or rescue to get some more animal knowledge. There are also rescues for the small pets.

Oh and remeber, to not sell puppies/kittens.

www.nopuppymills.com

instead have your local rescues come out.

Remember not to sell any animals. There are rat, mouse, hamster, bird, etc. mills, which are WORSE than puppy mills for some animals, because rats and mice can get pregnant 24 hours after they give birth, so they can be pregnant & nursing at the same time!

Its true that most animals you see in pet stores are from mills. But I believe it is possible to have alternatives such as buying your pet store stock from local breeders to sell rather than from the mills.

Buying from local breeders is still bad. You have no clue if they are a mill or not. What someone should do is have rescue come in and show their animals. Yes there are rabbit, gerbil, etc rescues.

Or find a breeder thru the parent organsation like www.absgerbils.org

or if u r willing u could breed ur own mice, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, goldfish etc
that way u can make sure the pets you sell are happy and healthy

Thats what I'm gonna do, breed my own pets for sale. Just as long as you realize that you wont make much if anything on the pets (if you care for them well). Thats why so many mills stay in business. The stores dont have to invest much in the care of the animals and can still jack the price to phenomenal heights. I am only gonna breed a small number of animals and then only to better the breed, not just to make a buck (cuz I probably wont).

It's quite expensive to house animals, unless you abuse them. Ask any breeder how much money they make. If they breed responsibly, they will tell you: none.

It take more then breeding them to make sure they are happy and healthy. You have to know about them andf belong to clubs, know the pros and cons etc. And what is the worst part is you have no idea what they will be used for..breeders, food, neglected etc. You have nothing to fall back on.

And I agree with locks, and this is tenfold for puppies and kittens.

Responsible breeders are not a buisness.
