Sore Nose

my gerbils live in tanks with aspen bedding. one of them has caught a sore nose and had a mild nose bleed last night. his nose is raw with scabs of dried blood clotting in snout. every once in a while he'd make a funny sound probably from the pain or struggle to breathe through the clots. there isn't any clicking of respiratory infection. ive been using the same bedding every since he was born and he has never caught an allergy from it. there are no items in the tank to cause any allergies either. they have no toys except for their cardboard rolls and every once in a while i'll let them play in plastic houses. their tank is cleaned out every week and thoroughly disinfected every month. what could be causing the allergy? how can i help him? he really looks uncomfortable and he continuously scratches and claws at his nose. i dabbed some hydrogen peroxide and then some neosporin but he begins to frantically scratch at it with his hind leg and i dont want him to make it worse. there arent any small animal vets around me either.
