Ok,..... I'm planning on buying a bird. I'm not sure whether I should get a cockateil, a budgie, or a parrot. The only thing that pushes me away from a parrot is that they aren't totally domesticated. Does anyone have any suggestions?? which bird should i get???
I want the most interactive bird possible. Like something that will almost become part of the family.
I go to school 6 hours a day, and get lots of homework. But I still have time to go on the internet for a couple hours, so i figure i have at least three hours to spare each evening.
My mom is allergic to feathers, not terribly beczuse a recently had a Chick for the weekend and she didnt feel bad at all. Which of these birds would be the cleanest, and the one that would not effect my good ol' ma the most??
Thanx to who ever takes the time to read and reply to my post:-) ~(:^)<

Cockatiels are known to be dusty birds, and budgies tend to spread feathers everywhere. (I have had both) Your mother may not be able to handle that with her allergies. I have a Senegal parrot and a Sun conure, both small parrots (about the size of a Cockatiel, maybe a little fatter), who are friendly and not messy like some birds.
They both think they are people. They were hand-fed and raised by a breeder. If you want a tame bird this is the best way to get one. Even Cockatiels and some budgies can be found hand-fed from breeders.

Visit my site to find out more about Senegals, Sun conures, and a few other birds:

I have a lot of links on my site that can help you find the right bird. Try these links:

I also invite you to join my Y! club about Conures and other Parrots:

Good luck with your search, there are a lot of great birds out there. You just need to find the right one for you and your situation. =)

All the best,

the only birds I have had are budgies. I had up to six at one time and they were all fairly clean (except spreading seed) until their molt. Then it was like a hurricane hit the cage.. if you have only one though, obviously it wouldn't be that bad. plus, I was out of town during the majority of their molting and my sitter didn't clean up..

it really depends on how strong your mother's allergy is, but if you keep the bird in a seperate room there shouldn't be a problem. Will this be your first bird? I recommend budgies as a first.. if you get it from a breeder, they're just as likely to bond with you as cockatiels. parrots, depending on the type, could be difficult for a beginner.
