yesterday i put both my hamsters together.one is much older than the other one though both are dwarf hamsters.the tank is big enough for two hamsters.however whenever the younger one sees the older one..he runs away.soon after there's a noise coming from the tank.both of them appears to be either chatting or quarelling.then i don't know if they are fighting or playing as they struggle with each other many times even though i don't see any injuries.just in case i have separated them but can anyone tell me if it is ok to put them together again?:angel6:

maybe he's scared. hmm. I would seperate them for a few days and then try putting them together again.

maybe it's scared. leave it alone for a few days and get it to trust you and get used to your smell.

The young one is scared. The older hamster feels that an intruder has entered his/her territory. Keep a lookout or seperate them if possible. It is most likely that they are fighting and the young hamster will be bullied by the older one.

Just be careful. When hamsters fight, it may lead to serious injuries leading to death.

How are they now?

:agree:
These hamsters are just setting their roles in the cage. They are distinctively trying to set who the dominant one is. As to separting them it's not recomened unless, the fighting is really serious and blood is drawn. Otherwise leave them together.:agree:

i have separated them for about 5-6 days.is it wise to put them back in together again?btw..everytime they meet, the older one would either try to scratch the young one or the young one upon seeing the older one will run away.

My suggestion would be to leave them together unless their is blood drawn. My dwarfs started out like that but, since then they have calmed down sufficiently. It is really hard to re-introduce them once separated.

my friend suggested putting the old hamster with the smaller tank in the bigger tub with the small hamster so they might get used to seeing each other first without any fights,is his idea feasible?anyway i tried it:angel2:

The hamsters are fighting. Inless it is a older male and a younger female they might get along. If they are both males you need to keep them seperated or like others said blood will be drawn. To tell if they are male or female the males rears are longer then females (females are more rounded). Hopefully that helps
