I have two 3 year old dogs, a miniature fox terrier x jack russel named Daisy and a maltese x shih tzu named Harry. For my birthday present this year (tommorow!!) my parents have let me do the one thing i have been dying to do...adopt a dog.
Two days ago, my father took my sister and i to the Lort Smith Animal Hospital. None of the dogs seemed to be the right dog for us, until the nurse introduced us to a 15 month old fox terrier cross. After much petting through the wire cage, she said it would be ok to let him out, as he is so shy and gentle. When he came out and came rushing to me, his big brown eyes and wet nose inches from my face, i knew instantly he i wanted him to come home with me. My and my father's only hesitation was that he is much bigger than my two dogs and that my mother was expecting me to come home with something that would fit in the palm of your hand.
According to the nurses at the shelter, he gets along well with other dogs (i saw this myself when i took my mother to see him yesterday).
When one of the nurses picked him up and put him in my arms, my mother thought i was joking and that this was not the dog we were adopting...because he is so big!
But after a few minutes, his big brown eyes melted my mother's heart, and she agreed to his adoption.
I followed the nurse down the hall and watched as he put him in the hospital cage and prepared him to be neutered the following morning.
This afternoon i will be picking him up, he of course, is going to be named Jack!
