Sorry for all the dumb questions I keep asking but I'm clueless about these things. Ok, my betta wont eat! anything non-live that is... I'be tried, Betta bites, flakes, freeze-dried bloodworms, - he wont touch them.
~He loves mosquito larvae, but i dont have any left, theyre gone for the winter.. so I tried the brine shrimp, those things are so microscopical that my fish cant see them. Do they grow at all?
Grr, so basically my fish is starving.. I gave him a piece of raw chicken couple days ago, which he gobbled up. Now I dont know what else to try. Today I saw a small mosquito thing flying aound the bowl and my betta went nuts and tried to catch the fly. ..
I have no idea what to do..I asked the pet store people what thy feed them, and he said freeze-dried woms, but my betta wont eat them.
Any help is greatl appriciated.

The brine shrimp should grow bigger. I can't think of any other food that he would accept. Eventually he should get hungry enough to eat at least the freez-dried food. Maybe he would try actually frozen food, not freeze-dried. These spoiled little bettas!

how long have you had your betta? my betta didnt eat until 3 days in his new home. I feed my betta mostly freeze dried blood worms, sometime betta bites, and about 1 a week, frozen brine shrimp. He goes crazy for the brine shrimp. if your betta still doent want to eat then get frozen brine shrimp. Cut a small piece off and put it in a small containor. Add a tiny bit of water so you see some white brine shrimp. suck the stuff up with a dropper and feed your betta by pushing out some of the brine shrimp a bit at a time. at fist my betta didnt see the brine shrimp, but now he eat all of it because he sees it. you should try this. oh yah by the way i wouldnt give your betta raw chicken. its bad for the digestion. I know cause im a betta breeder. I have a few cases like yours, but eventually all my bettas eat. if you have nymore question you can email me at

Well, I had him for 3 weeks now, and hes been spoiled since the beggining. I fed him mosquito larvae which he loved, but now theyre gone and he wont touch anything else.
How long does it take for the shrimp to grow?. I bought a shrimpery from petsmart and it took 2 days to hatch and now the shrimp are too small. Also it says on the box " not intended to grow to adult size".
Ok..how do I grow them to adult size? or can I buy live adults somewhere?..grr
I was looking through betta sites today and some person said that she feeds her betta fruits flies and tree maggots? We might have those, but again most of them dissapear for winter..

I'm no expert on shrimp but I think the adult size would be too large for pet fish. But they should grow big enough to feed the fish, since thats what theyre for.
Ive seen the fruit flies for sale in a petsore. No kidding! I think they were wingless, lol. They were in a clear jar with white papery stuff in it. They should sell those year round.

Sometimes there are occasions where you feed your betta something he really likes, and then he will refuse to eat anything else. Thats what happened with brine shrimp for the first week. I gave it to him 4 times a wekk. Now i only feed his 1 every 1 or 2 weeks. He eats almost anything i give him, except flakes. Bettas hate those.
