Why would a normal black and brown colored pleco suddenly turn a transparent red looking color? He was originally the same color of brown and black that the other pleco still is. He has grown just as much and looks exactly the same as the other pleco, and the only difference is we never see the newly albino-looking pleco because he stays way up inside the hidy hole rock we have for them and the other (the normal looking on) usually stays on the bottom edge or ventures out. My husband says that maybe it's because he gets absolutley no light and lays in a collection of the red tropical food I feed them that floats under and into the rock. Does that sound right? Any suggestions of what is causing my pleco to become transparent?

dont' worry, my pleco is sometimes like that too. Fishes have mood swings. The colour will come bak in a few hours.

Don't worry

Hmmm, well fish sometimes turn slightly duller after a while without eating (mine usually do if I have to turn on the lights and feed them if it gets dark before their dinner) but fish do not have mood swings and change colors, at least not plecos. Can you possibly get a picture of your pleco? It could be from servere ph or temperature changes, or possibly a disease (someone correct me if I'm wrong, but those sound like the symptoms of flex). Let us know how it does.

My tank was treated for fin rot, fungus and ick which took a week --almost a week ago. (meaning the treatment period ended almost a week ago.) And this is not an on again off again thing. It is permanantly fading away to a pale transparent color. It acts the same way as the other and is not diminished in any other way. It is as fast and slick as ever and completely healthy on the outside as you can get, besides the color loss. There are no spots, tears, wholes, fuzz, mold, streaks, or anything missing or mishapen on the fish. It is just the color which is so weird. I am so puzzled! If I can get my camera to take a picture of it I will post it.

if you have tetras in the tank your fish might have gotten the neon tetra disease other fish can catch it instead of just tetras. Or its because some fish ( like my neon tetras and zebra danios) need light so their color can be normal

It does seem very strange, let us know if there are any changes and post a picture if you can.
