Eggs?

we have had my gurami for about 4 years now, and every once a year she/he spyews out this white stuff that kinda looks like really really thin silly string from her/his rear. I cant fighure out what it is. She/he just sits in the area where the stuff sits and kind of "protects" the stuff from the other fish (goldfish) in the tank. What the heck is it?

First things first...lets sex your gourami, then we can take a educated guess at what your looking at. Also, it would be good to know what species of gourami we are talking about. Here is a site that might help:
