Gerbils should NOT live in cages.
Here are pictures of my gerbil habitats:

I don't know how to post a pic on here but you can see one of my boy gerbs cages on my webpage www.kismetscorner.net
I usually use a ten gallon with a wire lid, waterbottle, wood nesting box, wheel and toss in cardboard often for chewing:) I also end up buying the whole stores supply of fruit wood branchs since all my little critters love those:)

Notice I have SAM Lightning wheels hanging from the mesh top; I put a hardcover book on it to steady it, but not one that blocks much air.
I like to take heavy corrugated cardboard, and then cut it and fold it to create levels for them to climb on and hide under, and sometimes gnaw. (Be sure it does not block the wheel).
Wooden cubes in the corners minimizes digging there.
You'll get the hang of it.

here are some gerbils and their homes

these are my latest environments..I have a few of these boxes/bins.

This is my 'uncle' a retired breeder who looks after young male pups after they leave mum. The wire cage is not ideal gerbil enviroment but Soda prefers it and it allows scoialising with the pups before they are rehomed.

more tubs
Terracottoa and china crockery makes great gerbil dens

wooden toys are good too but may be pricey

I find these hanging coconut houses great in duna style cages

Resin toys (not plastic) can be fun

No problem :) i've had Zouave's "gerbils in red bucket" as wallpaper for months now, I'll just use yours for that purpose.
They won't be used on a website since my sites are prophecy related :)

No problem :) i've had Zouave's "gerbils in red bucket" as wallpaper for months now. . .
:) Which gerbils did you use?
I ask as the original Gang of Four had a tragic misfortune which I already posted about, and Phil and Tommy are now gone. :(
(Tommy was found dead for an unknown reason, and he was a favorite. That must have upset the tank hierarchy, and his brothers, fought, Phil biting Dill, but Dill won the rematch inflicting a wound that proved mortal to Phil despite my best nursing efforts. :( I know now that the first instant fighting begins to separate them permanently and at once. My apologies to Phil for not knowing that.
Dill had some serious wounds, but is fine now, and living with his uncle Cliffy, who was not involved in any of the fighting).

May I post some of mine? 8)

Breeding tank:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/padfoot82/Gerbils/MartinaKuzcoYBebes.jpg
Note that Martina and Kuzco are poorly organized gerbils, make no nest and most of the time keep their babies scatered around.
Non-Breeding tank:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/padfoot82/Gerbils/MartinaYKuzco01.jpg
Here note that this was one of the first pictures I took of my gerbils and I didn't knew how bad cedar shavings were. Of course I know better now and don't used them. Besides the shavings, I think this setup is great, with house, wheel, and second floor. 8)
Accesories:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v88/padfoot82/Gerbils/Deb20.jpg
Here you can see a coconut house, second floor, a plastic ball (they don't chew on it) part of a cardboard box and a branch. They love climbing on those branches. 8)

What's left of a wood house. They are pretty destructive.. hehe
