Because of the long infection or because of a birth defect, the vet isn't sure which, Reilly's kidneys are permanently damamged. The vet said it was probably from the long infection.
They leak protein all the time. My vet said it would be like someone taking a tiny bit of blood from you every day. Reilly will never 100%, but right now he is free from infection. The vet put him on a special diet to help his kidneys not work so hard.
The good news is Reilly is NOT diabetic. He threw sugar one time, but it was from the infection and kidney damage. He hasn't had sugar in his urine since. I am so relieved about that.
So, Reilly will be prone to bladder, bowel, and kidney infections for the rest of his life which may not be very long. :( I am sad about this, but glad that I could help him feel as well as he can be for as long as he is with us.
