Hi!
I got my first cockatiel about a week ago. It's a hand-fed male cinnimon grey. Although he's hand-fed, he act as though he were wild caught! It's been a week now and he still won't stay calm when I'm near him. All week I've been reading books and talking to him. He's a little ajusted but still not tame. I tried to handle him but when I got near the cage, he started fluttering around. I was afraid he was going to hurt himself, so I didn't try that again. My friend got a bird (quaker) that was hand-fed and she was able to be handled the very first day. Are all hand-fed cockatiels this jumpy when you first get them? He should be used to humans and not fear them, since he grew up with them. He wasn't pulled from the nesting box, I know that. Please tell me if this is normal and any taming tips would be great. Thanks!
- Andrew
P.S.
By the way, he's still young and has a touch of grey on his beak.
