My Mom and Dad let me get two hermit crabs. Their names are Betsy (Because her shell looks like a cow) and Jeremy (Because er I like that name?) Betsy is very very active. Jeremy stays in his shell most of the time. They haven't pinched me yet, which im glad of.
One question... Do I need saltwater AND regular water in their cage? (The regular water is distilled)

Unless they are PP (Purple Pinchers) then they do require both salt and plain water (make sure both are dechlorinated!) in their tanks.
But you said cage...you don't really have a cage, do you? That won't hold in the necessary humidity at all.

C-C-CAGE?! You need a tank, not a barred home like CF Tristan said. I'm ten years old by the way. I've had them for four or five months now. Their names are Hazel, Whitney, and Noodles. Got to go change my signature. I just got some pet fish! Baby kois, very small. I hope they grow up but not too big. I've also got goldfish.

No no no! They arn't kept in a barred cage, they are kept in a larger critter carrier thingy. I'm not dumb :P

Kritter Keepers are just as bad as a barred cage. They are impossible to keep the humidity in and impossible to heat. Did you read any of the info we all gave you before you got the crabs???

Yes I did. I am on a limited fund right now, (I'm only 12! I can't get a job!) so I have a critter keeper. I spray it with water and have a sponge in there and it's warm. When I have enough money, I'm getting a 10 gallon tank for them. And I have friends and people at petstores that keep theirs in the same thing.

I thought you were a little older, sorry about that.
Pet stores know absolutely nothing about the proper care for hermit crabs.... or most other pets for that matter.
Here's a couple ways you can keep your humidity up in that KK until you get a 10 gal (they are 10dollars at wal mart)
Wet a towel and lay it over the lid, keep it wet.
Wrap the lid in saran wrap except one small section for air circulation.
This way you won't have to mist it much, which can cause bacteria or mold to grow!

Yuck, mold..... But yeah it's true they are ten dollars at walmart. I mean hey, I'm sure that if you ask your Mom or Dad or whoever if you can do some chores, or clean the house or whatever for ten bucks, they can't refuse. I mean ten dollars is VERY cheap for a tank. Check it out on Petco or wherever and you'll see what I mean. And I do say on becuase you can check out their website :D I'm sure it will all work out, just keep doing chores, and eventually you'll have a nice habitat for your hermies. Becuase after all, I'm sure that you know that they need humidity and stuff, since you said you knew anyways. Happy hunting for your hermies! :D :) :D

Getting a tank from florida to north dakota might be a little difficult.

For temporary homes you can use the old damp towel trick. I don't know how well it will work on a plastic critter keeper..but it works okay for my ten gallon.
All you do is mist the towel when you wake up, get home from school and before bed. Then the humidity should stay around 70%.
i've been using the towel and glass lid for a while now my house gets pretty dry.
The best thing to do is save up for a tank or look for a second hand one. that's what I did and I got a great deal.

Or you know, I'm only 11 and I babysit. You could always babysit, that's as good as a job as you can get :p
