I have been riding horses for a VERY long time, and i am also going to get a ferret, but anyways...

I have 5 Acres outside of Philly, along with my house, so i know we'll need to fence it so the horse doesn't run off :) But will this be enough for 1 horse? I really want it to be healthy & happy, not crowded and depressed. I also have a few questions:

1) what kind of feed should i use, what should i look for in a feed?

2) If i wanted a broken, unregisterd female QH, how much would it be?

Thanks, this is not for sure, i need to know all i can about the exact care before jumping in :D

Make sure research more on the subject before getting a horse. I really reccoment "horses for dummies" great basic info. If you plan on keeping just one horse, 5 acres are fine, as long as its quality pasture and you weed out any poisonous plants and trees. When buying a horse make sure to have a vet with you to do all the check up and see if its healthy.
A vet will reccomend what kind of feed the horse will require, it largely depends on horses activity level, age etc. You will need hay with the grain. Things to keep in mind, like monthly expenses, feeding, worming, shoeing/trimming hooves, vet check-ups, dentist, saddle fit check ups, you might want to put a seperate account for the horse related emergencies.
The price of the horse will largely depend on the discipline, training, age. etc.
If youre looking for a trail horse, there are plenty of good horses ranging from $800-3000.

Heres a good basic care website, scroll down for all the info (http://www.acreageequines.com/HorseCare/)
This is great for figuring out the costs of horse keeping (http://www.acreageequines.com/free_ebook.htm#Checklists%20and%20Charts)

Also remember that you can't get just one! Horses are social animals, and a horse alone will quickly become depressed and unhappy.
