Hi all,

I am looking to adopt a cat/kitten in my local area for my daughter. (She is 16) We took in a stray a few weeks ago and it died within a week. Our vet said it had underdeveloped kidneys at birth. It was pretty hard on my daughter as she had bonded so quickly.

My question is what should we look for when looking for a new pet? Including how to know if the facility is reputable and what to look for in the personality of the cat. Any opinions on getting a cat vesus a kitten?

We have a dog (very lovable Bichon) who did well with the first kitten.

Thanks for any input,

Lisa

I STRONGLY advise you to check out a humane society. The animal is fixed and has it's boosters for a low fee, and you are saving a life! There are a LOT of older cats as well as kittens that need new homes, and taking them out of a shelter not only saves their life, but opens up the space for another less fortunate soul.

PLEASE consider a shelter!!
