i've seen pictures of the different kinds of crabs, but i'm still not really sure. elliott is brick red, including his big claw. lazy bob is the one in the picture. he's brownish with a purplish claw and baby is khaki-colored with a purple claw. i got lazy bob and baby at a mall kiask; i think they get all their crabs from the carribean. i got elliott from a shell shop in provincetown, mass. i'm not sure where they get their crabs. i'm not sure if i should be giving any of them salt water. i give them de-clorinated water now and they seem to be fine. :star:

They sound like they are all caribbeans. Salt water isn't a must for them but they seem to enjoy it. Smaller PP's have lighter colored bodies. As they get bigger they get darker red, some almost black.

i went to the mall today to look at the crabs at the crab s and they were gone. all of them. they turned it into a slipper kiosk and the crabs won't be back till the spring. they said they gave them to someone, but i don't know who. i hope they're treating them ok. so then i went to the local pet store to get some supplies...and i asked them about the salt, and they didn't seem to have a clue. if i was going to give them some salt water anyway, what's the best stuff to use? what can i mix in a 1 gallon jug of water?
thanks :)

I encountered the same situation with our crabs, I went back to buy a couple more and the guy that was selling them now sells jewerly in the mall, all the crabs were gone. It worried me too, I hope that they have a good home.

I also found the pet store to be no help with the salt water, I was not sure how much salt to water ratio mix to make for our craps.

They sounds like PPs to me too..but when in doubt give salt water any way.
The salt I use is called Doc. Wellfish when mixing it up use the rine Shrimp instructions. There is another brand called Instant ocean, a lot of crabbers like that too.

Most Aqua salts give you instructions on how to mix 1 gallon jugs. But some times you have to guess. Just remember table salt = VERY bad.

thanks :) i guess i'll have to go to pet co. for that, since the local place doesn't have that stuff.
oh- i was using bottled water for the crabs and i just got dechlorinizer, and it seems like the sponges dry out really quickly with the dechlorinized water compared to the bottled water.... is that normal?

Never heard of that, the water shouldn't make a difference.
