anybody know of a way to get a cat to stop scratching furniture, she has a scratching post that she uses. Declawing is not a option

There is this stuff u can buy in petstores it can be calle done of 2 things Sour Apple or Bitter Apple. It can be costly but it is very effective with my cats, and it doesnt effect us at all. It will deture her from even going near the area she uses to scratch, also buy her a different scratching post, it might be the fabric or carpet material they made the scratching post out of, it could possibly hurt her nails, and thats why she chooses not to use it.

Nail caps, they are sheeths that go over the nails, they are glued on. They can still scratch, but no damage. http://www.softpaws.com/

you can also try this sticky paws adhesive stuff that goes on furniture. it works great w/my cats. it's kinda like double sided tape. you can get it at petsmart.

You could also clip the nails (just the tips), it has the same affect as I imagine the capping would, they can still scratch but because the ends are blunt they can't hook into the fabric and so don't cause any damage. It has to be done regularly though. It worked wonders with my cat, but I started doing it when he was a kitten so he was use to it. An older cat may fight to hard to try, but thought I'd mention it.
