Three 6 month old bonded brothers still available. I rescued a pregnant doe and have kept most of the litter. I have raised them as my own and will continue to do so until they are adopted. These three are friendly, curious and playful...very socialized with humans and other rats. Nice fat tummies. Gorgeous. They are two black berkshires and a PEW (pink eyed white). The two berks for sure have to go together as they are very close, the PEW could be introduced to other rats as cagemates. (so could the berks). They have at least a 50 percent chance of carrying the dilute gene (resulting in a slate blue or smoke blue or grey offspring). These rats are offered ONLY as pets. I'm in Ontario. Free to good home AS PETS upon the promise that if even one day you have to give them up, that they will all go TOGETHER to another excellent home.

I believe that in order for a rat to pass the blue color it had to carry certain genes.
For example a Pink eyed diluted must carry the 'd gene to produce russian and or powdered.
A Red eyed Dilute must carry the 'g gene in order to carry the American blue genes and slate.
Was the mother a blue?

Ok, here's how I figured it out...if I'm wrong let me know....the mother is a black berk. Now, her babies were 4 black berks, two ruby eyed beige, a PEW, and a blue.
In order for her to have a blue, and for her to be a black berk, she must recessively carry the b gene, and so must the father, so that would produce 25 % blue babies, 25% black non carriers, and 50 % blacks that carry the gene. Right? Take the father, Bb, and the mother, Bb, and you get 25% BB, 25% bb, and 50 % Bb.
Bb + Bb = BB, Bb, Bb, bb
So I deduced they have a 50% chance of carrying the blue, and I guess they have a 25% chance of being BB , but obviously not the PEW .
Make sense?

I'm sorry, I used the wrong letters. (genetics for brown and blue eyes lol)
I should have used DD and Dd and dd and well you get the point. Same info, just wrong letters.
Were you interested in adopting?
