I use the kind that has no sent and for some reason the name is escaping me. But I was wondering about the other types out there.

I see pine and cedar all the time but fear they are scented and woudl cause problems. What is your experience?

I also see timithoy hay can you use that?

Last but not least what do you guys and girls pay for bedding?

When i used to have a syrian hamster i used corn cob bedding but its no good for dwarfs they cant burrow through it...for my dwarfs I use ASPEN bedding no oils in it or smells....it looks like pine but it not...pine bedding is no good because of oils in it and even thou we cant smell it that much to a hammy its like bad pot pourri..same as cedar...what i also put in with my dwarfs is timothy hay...i mix abit of it with the aspen and they have a blast cheewing it up...hope this helps :) and yes i pay for the bedding its pretty cheap...

I use Carefresh for my dwarf. It cost about 20$ for a 50 Liter bag and about 6$ for I think a 10 liter. I heard Aspen is one of the best for burrowing (also the cheapest) but my guy didn't seem to like it. Haha, so picky. I buy it in a huge bag for only 14$ and use it for my bigger animals such as my guinea pigs and rabbit.

I defnintely wouldn't use pine or cedar. There have also been some debates on animals choking on Corn Cob bedding. From my knowledge though it doesn't seem to dangerous except it will grow mold quicker.

I always put some timithey hay in a corner for Beady when I clean his cage. He used to go wild with it. Now, being two in January, he has lost interest but will still nibble a piece from time to time.

Hay or alfalfa can in rare instances pierce the cheek pouch of a hamster causing an abcess which can be deadly without expensive vet treatment. I would not put hay or alfalfa in a hamsters' tank. Too risky.

I get huge amounts of free finely shredded paper from a neighbor (maybe he is compulsive or just paranoid! lol). It appears to be safe and works OK, though requires a bit more spot cleaning than aspen. It saves me about $50 a month (I have 39 critters here).

Yes but you have to make sure there is not a lot of ink or any magazine paper due to the led in that ink.

I never thought about it getting stuck in the cheek pouch. But that is definitely possible! Beady just kinda nibbles and swallows it, but I'll take it out anyways. :)

my hamster just carries any little bits she has dropped anywhere in her pouch then just takes them out when she gets to her bed.
she has never eaten it before.

You can use shredded paper, however, I use kiln dried pine. Kiln dried pine is fine, as all of the dust has been removed. I have been using it for years, without any problems.

The pet stores where I am don't have aspen bedding available, so I was forced to get pine for my hamsters *pouts* I also put in shredded tissue paper in the cage, and my hamsters luff it :) In the winter when it's cold I give my hamsters some hamster fluff, and it makes them nice and cozy ^^

Fluffy bedding's bad for hamsters? :/ Never heard that anywhere before! It's just like normal cotton kind of. Except they made it especially for hamsters, it's very soft and comfy =) But maybe I'll take it away just to be on the safe side... lol

I know somebody whose hamster lost a foot from that fluff wrapping around it. It also can cause intestinal blockage.

I use Carefresh for my hamster.

Alfalfa is okay if you get it in blocks.

Pine and Cedar contain toxic oils, called phenols, that do several things. They can lead to respiratory infections and kidney failure. Yes, this includes kiln-dried pine, to a lesser extent.

For any "fuzzy" I use Carefresh, Aspen, Cell-Sorb or Yesterday's News.

Never ever use ANY form of cedar or pine because of the reason wolfchan listed above. ^

The fluffy bedding stuff is also dangerous, because f they eat it it can casue intestinal blockage, or it can get wrapped around their legs and cut off circulation.

All of the small critters here use Aspen. Carefresh was okay...but I didn't think it did a good job absorbing, and the cage would get smelly only a couple days after cleaning it (plus my rats are allergic to it), so I use aspen now and it's *much* better.

Fluffy hamster bedding can get tuck in pouches or get swollwed and cause tummy blockages.
It is supposed to be very unsafe, but everyone sells it.
I would not want to take the chance, just in case.

Honestly i use pine bedding..and i have never had any problems with it..I have 4 hammies 2 Syrians and 2 Campbells Dwarfs...and i take them to the vet on a regular basis and they are healthy and healthy can be. Not even any bad sounds in there lungs..I think alot of people hear stuff about bad situation and blame the bedding...just cuz it was there fault, if u clean your cage properly and feed your hammie and change your hammies water bottle there will be no problems..Some people are just irresponsible and want to blame the bedding..Others who have hammies who are allergic to pine bedding i understand..but i feel that pine bedding is fine to use..considering the fact my hammies and in 100% health.

wot is hamster fluff?

PLEASE.....to everyone out there do not buy Fluffy synthetic or cotton wool type soluble nesting material for your hamster. It can block their digestive system and kill them,it can also get caught round their little toes and legs cutting off the circulation.I use a safe edible parchment(long strands of paper that are water soluable)You can buy this in the UK not sure about elsewhere. You can also use shredded plain white kitchen paper
