Does anyone feel that a dwarf hamster is lonely if living alone? This is a common question, I know, but I'd rather just keep the one I have, as long as he isn't lonesome. The habitrail is also too small for two..

Does your dwarf seem active? eat ok? get attention from you? He may like his own space. Not all dwarf hamsters get along with others. Don't get another pet if you don't feel you are ready for it.

You will do better I think to let it live alone. Unless you have 2 sisters or 2 brothers or mom and daughter, I wouldn't try it. They can be quite snippy. Good luck

When you are buying them I think you should try to get either two females or one male. I know some males can live together but I personally wouldn't risk it. Once you have had a single female for a while it might be very hard to introduce a friend.
So, no, I wouldn't try to get another one. :)

Unless u have a hammie from the same litter i wouldnt try it, as babies they grow together and have company..if he hasnt had a companion before it could get risky, he could get territorial and kill the other one, if u choose to introduce another hammie into the cage..If not then just give him all your love, and he will do great! :)

Dwarfs I do not believe get lonely the same way gerbils do. I have two dwarfs living alone and they seem ok, and don't need another to groom themselves. I also have three very tame guys living together; I rescued them from a shelter and am convinced they came from the same litter.
I think dwarf introductions are harder than gerbil ones, and I have tried both several times.
So, if your dwarf seems OK let it live alone. An introduction might be dangerous; even gerbil into's are not always safe even when we are careful.
