If i were you id go with either a syrian hamster (in pet stores called teddy bear hamsters) or campbells dwarf hammies! They are lovable and easy to maintain..i have never dealt with Panda Bears...i assume they have a different name...ad the pet store just uses that name to sell more..and chances are they are black and white..hint the name panda bear. You can get any kind of cage, i wouldnt recommend wire on the bottom of the cage though. If u want to see syrian and dwarfs u can e-mail me i have tons of pics of mine.. tiamaria@shaw.ca

Hi! Sorry to be so late in replying, but I just now read your post. I have a panda bear hamster. They're Syrian hamsters, like the teddy bear and golden hamsters are. They're called panda bear hamsters because they're black and white, and their markings resemble a panda bear. I think they're so cute!

Have you gotten a hamster yet? If so, what kind did you decide to get?

About the cage - I'm using a 10-gallon aquarium now. I've used a Crittertrail cage in the past, but they're a pain to clean, with all the tubes and such. Also, my hamster chewed on the cage bars, which I found disturbing. So I prefer the aquarium. It's neater, quieter, and easier to clean. You have to make sure you have a secure, well-ventilated lid, though.

If you go to www.about.com, and look under the pets section, they have name listings for different types of pets.

Have fun!
