Can stress give a puppy diarrhea?

I have decided to crate train my yellow lab puppy, she's two months old. I didn't want to do it but there was no other way to house train her. She was whining when I left, but other than that she seemed fine. But when I came home, she had diarrhea... the crate was filled and she was covered in it. So can stress give a puppy diarrhea?

Sometimes my dogs would when they were stressed. So that might be it.
