my hamster died [Archive]

oh my god, I am a wreck....my first hamster died tonight.....
I got him in February.....and for the past couple weeks he wasnt as active as he usually was, but i thought it was maybe because of the cold....he didnt show any other signs of illness, I dont even know what to think....
I changed his cage every week, I gave him new food and water EVERY day. What could have happened?
man..i'm so heartbroke......R.I.P. lil man :bawling:

I have had hamsters who looked and acted perfectly normal one day - and then I found them dead looking peaceful with no apparent symptoms. One was only 11 months old and I had her since birth. :(

thats the saddest thing about death you had them since birth they die on you when they grow old thats just life there always be other ones like them

I have had nine who were born here - and died here. One died at 2 1/2 weeks, and the latest at over 1.5 years.

He was my first hamster, and he will be my last....at least for the meantime. I am going away next year for my second year of college, and so its just not the right time to get another one.
I really hope he didnt suffer....I found him in his house, and his eyes were closed and everything....he was curled up in a lil ball, like how he used to sleep....I pray that he died in his sleep....

Dormitory living is not the right place for pets.
But spend a little time helping at a shelter to keep in touch with animals. Hope you get back into hamsters when you can. :)

I am pretty hesitant about voluteering at our shelter, because I am afraid that I would fall in love with every animal there, and end up taking them all home with me lol

I am so sorry to hear of your hamsters death. :( As others have said don't blame yourself for what hapened but remember that your hamster will be there waiting for you at the rainbow bridge. :rainbow1:

Im sorry to hear about ur hammie dying :(...It hurts when it happens...I just lost my dwarf hammie Candy on dec 4...she seemed ok the night before ..running in her ball and in the moring i brought her for her nails to be clipped...and it went sownhill from there...it hurts alot...:(

Thank you, and I'm so sorry about your hamster too.....it hurts alot when a pet dies, lots of people see hamsters as "disposable pets" and they think its stupid when you get all worked up when they die...but they dont understand how much you can love a lil fur ball.

I totaly agree with you...I love all of my hammies...they are like part of the family..I remeber one of my friends saying to me that he find it stupid to bring a hamster to a vet when they only cost 10 bucks...he is a idiot...some people just dont get it...Hope you are doing ok thou :)

You are right. Even though it is just a small little animal it doesn't mean that we shouldn't care for it as if was a dog or cat.

mine died 2 day...i'm such s reck as well.....i kno it was my fault i was 2 rough...didn't treat it gentle enough ...i kno kno and have learned my lesson....but it's too late

i dunno..like..one time i just picked it up..i kno that doesn't sound bad but i grabbed it up...didn't mean 2...and it went into shock a bit and i put it down..another time is like i didn't kno hammies couldn't be tossed into the air.. i did that once but never did it agian...i kno ur apalled that i would attempt such horrid things but i hope u kno i'm only 12.. well i'm very sad and still blame myself...

there was a 3rd litter of pups first their was 8 of them then somehow one disapeared while another one was smothered and had its head look like it was going to dislocate and then it died and the mum ate it.

When my hammie Candy looked sick i called a emergecy vet..they said a visit would cost 65 $ i said no problem she is worth every penny...but she didnt last till moring :(
