Well I oiled my hamster's wheel with olive oil like a previous thread suggested, but I guess I over did it because now Rupert's has an oily patch on his back from the wheel. I wiped all the oil off but it's been a whole day and he's still oily. I've tried wiping him with a damp cloth, even tried to comb it out with a tooth brush. What do I do? Is this gonna hurt him?

And the wheel is STILL noisy  Any tips?

All you have to do is rub some oil on your fingers and then rub a thin film of it on the wheel hub, ort whever oil apears.

Olive oil is one of the healthiest things you can drink - an antioxidant with the best kind of oils. Just rub off some of the excess with a Q-Tip. The ham will groom away the rest. He probably already has! Thanks for caring.

(BTW, this is why we recommend OLIVE oil, not some kind of light motor oil).

You could try giving him a bowl of Chinchilla Bathing Sand to clean himself. He will probably dig and roll around in it and throw some over his back like my Hammy used to. You could also try sprinkling a tiny bit over the oily patch, but do not be tempted to rub it in as the sands may scratch his skin. Just leave it to soak up some of the excess oil and he will probably shake the sand off when he's ready.....
Good luck!

PS - sorry - no tips about the noise, if it's one which fixes onto the bars on the side of the cage you probably wont stop it :(
