My hamster loves her little wodden hamster house but it is beginning to smell like urine because she pottys in it. It is not closed on the bottom and fits perfectly in the corner, shes sitting on it in my aviator picture, well anyway, I was just curious as to how to either 1.) make the smell go away. [I dont know what to clean it with because im not sure if soap or other products would be harmful to her Ive tried warm water but the smell is still their] or 2.) get her to potty some where else in her tank.
Thanks,

if she likes to potty there, it'd be hard to break that habbit. I know my hammy picks a spot to use as his bathroom after every time i clean the cage and he only does his business there.
as for the wooden house...just a new one...if you clean it, you will never completely get rid of the smell as wood is very absorbant...and if you DONT clean it (or dont clean it well enough which you cant do without using products that are harmful to your hamster) it will become bacteria breeding ground...
if i were you, i'd just either buy a new house or get her a new plastic house that is easily washable

You could also try a little plastic potty and hamster litter. My hamster only will pee in her litterbox. She poops wherevever she wants but 'cause she pees in her litterbox her cages never smells. Hagen makes litter and so do other companies. I find mine by the tubes and space station stuff at the pet store.
Next time you clean her cage, and are ready to give her her new house and new potty, just put a tiny bit of wet bedding from her cage in her new litterbox/potty and put it in the place she normally pees.
Best of luck, and hope it works as well for youas it does me :D

What is you cleaned throughly and disinfected the wooden house, let it dry, and then spritzed it with some cologne or vanilla extract this changing the scent? Meanwhile, some of the potty stuff can be placed in a litter area.

what about washing it with baking soda and letting it dry for a day or two??
