My hammie has been drinking a LOT of water in the past couple of weeks. Also, I noticed as a result a lot of pee in the cage and I have had to change it very often. There are 2 in the cage and are both dwarf hamsters. Last night I noticed her whole back end was wet and her one eye was pasted shut. She is very lethargic as well. Do I get medicine for wet tail? Do you think this is what it is? If so, how do you give it to them? I only have a little bit of time before work to buy it if thats what i should do? Someone please help! :(

I think that the main risk is dehydration, and so you might need to help your hamster drink using a syringe or dropper. Perhaps place a slice of cucumber next to her as it has high water content.

I would recommend that you contact a vet immediately even if only to ask further advice.

I do hope your hamster will be ok.

The pet stores dont sell things for wet tail anymore even. I will call the vet on Monday though. I hope she makes it until then. They are very young (6 months) so I dont know what is wrong with her. Its so sad to see her like this. Both of her eyes are shut, but she still gets to the water and i have her eating veggies. It seems like her back end is hurting her because she moves with the first I have to call and find out how much it is going to cost too. I know thats a horrible thing to say, but I'm a college student and I have very little money. Anyone had anything like this happen to your hammie? :(

Dwarf hamsters can not get wet tail. They can get severe diarrhea, but not wet tail.

Have you smelled the wetness on your hamster? Could it be pee? Water from the bottel? Diarrhea? I say definitely take her to the vet, especially if she is she having problems with her eyes and back.

Drinking lots of water can be a sign of diabetes, which is more common in dwarfs. Go to the vet as soon as you can...

She may have an eye infection also, so you want to get that checked out as well. That can lead to a cataract, and, I'm sure it causes pain. :(
