Hi.

I love animal so much. I even dropped out of my college course to go to another college to study Animal Management.

I really want to open my shop in the next 5 years. I'm just wondering how would i go about starting the wheels moving into making my dream.

I would be really grateful if anyone could help me.

Thanks

Louise

Yes i did look at the other posts on this section and took time in reading them.

What i would really like to do is to breed my own pets and sell them through my pet shop. I would only go into small animals, like hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice etc.

I have been looking for a job working in a pet shop as an assistant and then i want to work my way up. But im not having much luck.

Yes i do have experience in breeding.
Im currently a hamster and rabbit breeder.

Thank you for that information, that was a great help.
I think i'll try and look for a job in a pet shop then see what happens.

After i finish my course in Animal Management, Im going to go and do a business management course. And even improve my maths.

If you REALLY love animals, you should open a shelter, and not contribute to the thousands of animals in shelters :( Just for a thought ;)

If you had ethical breeding experience, you would know that breeding for pet stores would never work.

okay.... this may be long but i am telling you from experiance. yes loving animals is a good start. but a pet shop is a business. you need to deall with all kinds of animals, products, correct husbandry and customers who ask the same questions all day and blame you because they did not take the time to research the animal they bought. you will also need at least 1700 sq. feet and about 70,000 dollars. this includes rental space, deposit, liscensing, city codes, then you will have to furnish it for all the supplies to fill it,all the cages aquariums terrariums ,filters ,heaters ,food for the animals you will sell and the most important animals. payrol, employees who know what they are doing, accounting, register, credit csrd & check machines, good credit because your suppliers will not accept a credit risk. so...... still want to own a pet store then go for it we need small stores. not wally world pets dumb or petsgo. it is a hard business to keep open. too many stores have closed because people only think it is about loving animals. in reality it ends up money, money, money. you kinda get lost in the business world. so i suggest you become a vet or wildlife conservation. you do more good that way. i am not an animal acctivist i am a pet store owner w/ 10 years experiance. my spelling sucks sorry :D
