Is he dying?

I have this hamster, I got it from a friend who left for college so I have no idea how old he is. He's huge though and so fat and so cuddly. But just today I noticed he had a bad smell to him. Like feces, but his tail is completely clean. His cage is clean and doesn't smell at all, it seems that only he smells. This hasn't happened in all the months I've had him and I'm scared. What could this be?

I wouldnt be too worried until you see warning signs, such as diarreah, closed eyes and so on. When I clean my hamster's cage, the cage smells fine, but the hamster still smells, and he's perfectly healthy.

If you see a little diarrhea think if you gave too much lettuce or other greens that can cause "the runs". If not, try the medicine Dri Tail from pet stores. If it is SEVERE diarrhea better see a vet.

You said the ham is a he; females smell when in season (for breeding). I have never had a well male smell that way. So I am puzzled. Good luck.

Hmm.. thanks for the advice. Could it be he's just old? He's completely healthy as far as I can see. In fact, I smelled him today and he doesn't smell as bad at all. Maybe he just farted or something...
