Guess what's goin' down today maybe?! I might finally get a new dwarf hamster! My female dwarfie is alone and I really don't understand why I haven't gotten a female cagemate for her, but I didn't. Color and age don't matter, as long as they get along, are happy, and are healthy. But a white one would be nice, eh? Not the regular agouti? :D

I hope you know how to handle dwarf introductions! I once tried to with males. . . and one guy went NUTS screaming like a banshee and climbing up the divider screen and then jumping nine inches down on the other. They are living alone, and seem happy enough.

BTW, you know I am DF on RR, right? ;)

Yes, I have done intros many times with hamsters. I'm a moderator on Hamsterific. ;) I'm done hamster breedings, intros, and a whole bunch of other stuff with hams. :) I just favor gerbies more than hams.

Yeah, I do. Die Fleu...something. LOL! :) What's it mean? Very coolio, though! At least it's original. I'm sure JessicaReed isn't very unique. LOL!

Hrm, when I said to my mom, "Este`e needs a friend," she didn't say anything.
Round #1: Jessica wins

I said again, "Mom, Este`e needs a friend."
My mom said, "Uh-hu. They'll fight."
I said, "Nuh-uh, if you introduce them the right way."
She said, "I dunno, lemme think about it."
Round #2: Jessica wins

After a heated debate (lol, it was actually a pretty calm convo), my mom finally said, "I dunno. Maybe."
Round #2.5 (lol): Jessica wins

Round #3: ?

My Campbells is about six or seven months old. I wanna get a baby for her. She was with another cagemate for about three months before her cagemate had babies when we bred her. So, she's been alone for about four months. :( Sad, huh? I just don't want her to be lonely since she's a dwarf. :(

BTW, everyone, my mom and I are going to the petstore today to get Este`e a buddy. ONE QUICK QUESTION! Are dwarf hamsters really territorial?

Dwarf hamsters can be territorial..id put them together and watch them closely and if they start to fight remove the new hammie..Most will get along with a buddy easily it just takes time...females are more willing then males.

It all depends on the dwarf, you would have to introduce them and see what will happen.

Dwarf hamsters aren't nearly as territorial as Syrians. You might already know this, but for those who don't, I've found a good way to introduce dwarves, assuming you have a cage for each of them and they're both settled.

You take one hamster out (put it in a ball or something) and place the second hamster into the first hamster's cage. Then you place the first hamster in the second's cage. This lets them get used to each other's smell without confrontation. Take them out before an hour is up (so they don't think it's their new home). I'd do this every day until they don't look nervous. If you want, you can also use your hands after this by handling one hamster and then the other and so on. This let's them know that the new hamster smell won't hurt them. After they seem comfortable you can just introduce them and hope they don't fight.

Good luck!

Our humane society is already filling up with dwarfs so check there before going to the pet store. Some of my dwarfs get along and others don't.

I've NEVER seen a small animal at a humane society before. Anyway, they aren't getting along so far....

It will take some time....quite a bit of time...if they arent brutally fighting and hurting each other they will be fine..The new hammie is trying to establish dominance over your old hammie, and fights start etc...Im sure they will be fine, they will squeak at each other for a while, but once they are done fighting over dominance, they will get along great.

Syrians are completely solitary..NEVER put them together other for the 1 hour for breeding purposes, syrians love to be alone, they are very territorial. If you are breeding put the female in the males cage, i found it works best.

If your female is over 6 months old do not breed her. Femals Syrians hip bones fuse if they have not had their first litter by 6 months and it can be dangerous to the mom and babies to the point of being deadly.

evan evan evan syrians our like fighting roosters they want their terriotory and if you cause the syrians stress level up it will seriously kill the male along with the pups (If theres even any pups) there not like dwarfs.
