Hi, I just found this forum when I was looking for some help for my new little fire belly frog. It has been almost a week since he has eaten anything. A friend purchased him for me last Saturday, and the gentleman fed him a live cricket before we took him home...that was the last thing he has eaten. He won't seem to eat a cricket for me...any suggestions on what I could do? I appreciate any help or tips.

That is strange, but you what do you mean by "he wont eat a cricket from me"? You put the cricket in his terranium and he won't even attempt to eat it? Maybe your frog is sick. Is he depositing waste at all? You should take your frog to the vet if he is not doing any of the following things.

Frogs often get stressed (Believe it or not) and need a little time to adjust to their environment, much like any other pet. In my experience it usually takes a week, but maybe the extra disturbances have prolonged his stress. Do you remember how the store clerk fed the frog? Frogs sometimes get particular, try some of the following:
-leave him alone for a few days, hunger and familiarity usually help
-make sure you feed your frog in the same fashion they did at the store (i.e. live and dropped in the tank, hand fed from tongs, dead)
-check to see that the temp. is adequate. At lower temperatures, a frog's metabolism is reduced and it won't need to eat as much.
If all else fails, take him back to the store, but I'm pretty confident that one or more of the above should do the trick.

thanks for the help guys! I got him to eat yesterday. I went to a local pet store and asked them if I could try maybe some worms or something different. I was feeding the frog exactly how the gentleman fed him, but he just didn't want to eat it...even after a week and a half. The lady at the pet store said that the crickets were probably too large and that I should try the small ones...and he ate those. Yeah!!! The lady said that if a cricket (especially one of larger size) ever bit him that it would make him scared of them and he wouldn't consume them. I fed him several of the smaller ones, yesterday and today. He is doing very well now...thanks for all the tips.
