Hi I am a new member!

O.K last night my mum and I were talking about getting a new hamster. we want a male. She said that he will have an erection anytime he wants to "get some". I have heard other people saying that it would be quite shocking and his testicles will get bigger. A lot of people i have asked have said it is shoking and a few have been scared. Should i change my mind or stick with the idea? And when will they have bigger testicles and an erection?

shaz :o :)

Syrians
Need to be alone after three weeks of age because they are solitary animals and do not do well with others at all. They will usually fight to the death. One ten gallon tank is the minimum size for a Syrian. They need a wheel, house, water bottle, and food bowl. No pine or cedar bedding.

Dwarves
Dwarves strive to be in pairs and groups. If left alone, they can sometimes become aggressive and irritable. One ten gallon tank is the minimum for two dwarves. They need a house, wheel, food bowl, and water bottle. Ropes and things are always good, though. No pine or cedar bedding.

Males
They spray urine all over their cage and their urine is musky, so the cage smells nasty faster. But, their temperments are more tolerable and not as territorial.

Females
More territorial but don't mark their territory and their urine isn't musky.

If my hammies did mate once, would the female be pregnant or do they have to mate more times?

Can i slowly introduce my new male hamster to my female hamster after he has been here two months , but not so that they can breed?

Would a male syrain and a female syrian be o.k in the same room?

If my female is pregnant can i stop the pregnancy?

No, they don't pee like that. Males do that to spray, not pee. And just letting you know, you DON'T want to breed. Wanna know why? Because you're a big time novice, the mom's will sometimes eat the babies, the babies might die, you can't touch the babies till they are two weeks old, etc.. It's a nightmare for a beginner, trust me. I've bred three times and it's just so heart-wrenching. It's hard, too. Their diets and housing has to be totally different and it's just to hard. Please don't. Give http://www.hamsterific.com a visit.

BTW, sorry if I sounded mean or stuck up, I'm just sayin the way it is. :( Trust me, I wish it wasn't so. :(

i dont want to breed i just want my hamster to live in the same room as each other. and if they mate (by accident when i put them in each others cage) would the female get pregnant or do they have to mate more than once? I would be watching them closely anyway so it won't happen.

No, the female would get pregnant. Are you going to get Syrians or dwarves? Because Syrians CANNOT be put together. And, just letting you know, they WILL mate. And you can't put a male in with a female, only a female in with a male, because females are REALLY territorial compared to males. If they are dwarves, they really should have a buddy...OF THE SAME GENDER! :) Syrians should always be alone or else they will fight to the death. :(

Male hamsters are fine I've had two and they do not smell if you keep the cage clean. They can have rather large testicles but this is normal. Our first hamster was a female and they can sometimes smell a bit "musty" when in season, but again not unpleasant.Cleaning them out regularly is the key to good hygiene.

Q1: Do male hamsters ejaculate when mating or have an erection?
Q2: Does yellowish whitish slime come out of a female hamster when mating or in season?
Q3: How should i make a ropewalkway for my hammie, i have made one but she won't use it?

Hi, Hamsters can not mate through the bars of the cage.

Syrians should not ever be put in the same cage together not even for 1 minute.

Obviously you have to, to breed but they should not be just shoved in each others cages. I would not recomend breeding I have had hamsters for 10 years and I would not breed. You must never breed hamsters from pet shops for a start you must get both hamsters from reputable breeders that know there genetics. If you do not you risk inbreeding, deformaties sick babies, and often the mother will eat her own babies because of this. There is also a time limit on breeding females. If they are over 6 months old their pelvic bones fuse and your beloved hamster will probably die giving birth.

Although pregnancy is a natural thing it is also very risky and can lead to death and illness. Breeding hamsters is hard. I love my hamster too much to want to breed her and put her at risk in anyway.

read this thread to see how nasty it can turn out

http://www.petshub.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30485

Although they are unlikely to come to any harm showing each other through the bars. They do not like company and may each my feel the other is in their teritory. this may stress them out so why risk it?

Q1 yes they do ejaculate while mating but you will probably never be aware of this and will not see an errection

Q2 you will not see any white/ yellow slime coming out of a female she may have whitish urine and smell slightly musky

Q3 I could not really tell you the one you have made is probably fine some hamsters like these toys some dont

but they do spray urine al over the cage.

I've had male hamsters and they have never sprayed urine. They use a corner of the cage to pee in.They are more docile and can be less agressive then the females at times.I've had both sexes as pets and prefer males.

Yes it is. But I'm going to be nice. You really should have dwarfs of the same sex if they live together. I have a breeding trio of 2 females and one male but I breed as a hobby. They will mate and produce offspring.
