Hi! I just bought two mice about two weeks ago and my mother (who is a science teacher) brought me a "mouse" that one of her students gave her. To make a long story short I soon realized that the "mouse" I was given is a gerbil. Can they live together? They are the same size and seem to be doing fine so far. Please Help!!!! I really don't want any fatalities! Thanks!

no. I would not mix species of any kind. They might be fine for a little while, but eventually the gerbil will try to kill the mice. You should buy your gerbil another gerbil because they are social animals and need companions of their own kind.

What if the gerbils and mice are the same size?

NO. THEY WILL FIGHT. you should not mix species. doesn't matter if they are the same size, do not do it, they will kill each other

Agreed. Even if it works out at first there is a huge chance that they will fight in the end and it probably won't be pretty. I certainly wouldn't be willing to take that chance. amymlc is right, too, about getting a companion for the gerbil. And if you aren't prepared to have two tanks of animals, maybe you can find someone who needs a cagemate for a loner gerbil.

I get what your saying though but why would the gerbils and mice fight eachother does it have something to do that the mice our weak and they can't defend themselfs
