If your parents are saying no, I'm sure theres a good reason for it like money issue, most of the teens my age that own horses usually have a job that pays for the board and parents might offer a bit for extra vet bills, they also help out at the barn in return for free lesson or discount on their board.

wait til u can get a job yourself, because believe me a parent that says no is going to be almost impossible to change their mind. If you have earned your own money then you could pay for everything yourself with maybe some help from your parents. That way your parents wont have to fork out so much money for you.

I had my first horse when i was five and i kind of just asked for it and my parents said yes lol But my mum had ridden as a child so knew how much everything was going to cost etc. If your parents wont buy you one how about seeing if they'll let you have some lessons, or even if you are able to ride, sometimes people have a horse that they can no longer ride and want someone to 'share' it with them. It usually involves paying half for food, shoes vets bills etc, but you are able to ride the horse and look after it pretty much as your own.

You dont have to own a horse to be able to enjoy them, and i wouldn't try pushing it with your parents too much!

why dont you share or lan a horse? that way it's almost like owning one, but costs less and you have less responsabilities i.e. vet

What about renting a horse for the summer. Your parents will see that you are good with horses and it will give u experience. :rainbow1:

I'm thirteen and I'm leasing a horse right now. My parent said if I can prove I can take care of a horse, then they'll think about it - which is always usually a yes!

Leasing is an awesome idea. The only problem my parents c with leasing is that at my barn its soooo expensive. I dont want to lease from any other barn cuz ill have to trailer it and everything and thats a prob since we dont have a trailer maybe ill try asking once again for the lease thanks for the help!

why would you have to trailer? you just do everything you need to do at the barn where you're leasing.

I dont think you understood what i was saying. What i ment is that if i lease or board at a DIFFERENT stable then i would have to trailer it to the place where I take lessonsand that would be the part that i need a trailer for. I don't want to move from my barn because i love it there and i know a lot off people there. By the way when i said I'll ask again about leasing I asked and my parents are thinking about it. Hopefuly they'll say yes!

I talked my parents into taking lessons when I was 12, and then found a horse that I wanted. My parents did a shareboard for a yr., found I was still interested, and finally got her for me. My parents were worried that I'd lose interest, esp. w/boys on the horizon. But, I never did, even though I had boyfriends, I kept up with the horses. So, demonstrate a lot of commitment, offer to pay for some things, and things will work out for you, I just know it! Had to sell my horses when I got my first job at 21, but 20 yrs. later, I just bought my very own first horse, meaning I pay for it now. If you want this, you'll find a way... Worst case scenario, find a shareboard where the owner never rides, and the horse will be (almost) like your own. Good luck!
