I am still looking for a forever home to two rat brothers. Two black bershires (brown w/ white tummy) 6 months old, very smart and sociable. Hand raised since birth, from a rescue litter. The line has been reported back as healthy.
Look in the "for adoption" folder here for a pic

These guys are litter trained.
I'm in Keswick, Ontario. Can deliver within reason.

I'm terribly sorry but I had no idea that people actually had rats for pets. I live in the woods and always had field mice in the house during the cold months. I never could understand why people went so nuts about them and had to set traps to kill them. Personally, I thought they were kind of cute and just let them be. Sooner or later, they would approach one of the sliding doors and I'd let them back outside. But pets......go figure. You live and you learn.

Oh yes there is a whole underground world of rat LOVERS out there which you don't hear about until you own one! There are SO MANY groups on the web to join, in almost every city. Transport set up for delivering them, and a plethera of communities that exist for the sole purpose of rescuing rats and rehoming them.
I wouldn'ta thunk it either, until I got a rat and was suddenly enveloped by the whole thing. It's great fun. I personally had no idea there were so many varieties of rats. Check here

for some examples! They're extremely smart and easy to keep. Only thing is they sort of need a fair amount of cagespace...1.5 cubic feet per rat. There are rattie clothes, hats, igloos, hammocks, you name it.
It's quite fun actually as they are very responsive. More responsive than some cats I've known! lol
