hi! i have 5 white clouds and i was planning on getting a ghost shrimp and a male guppy to add to the tank. here is the question: it said on a web site that because guppies give birth to live young, it is good to have aquarium salt in the tank. if i am only getting a male, so there will not be any babies born, do i have to put aquarium salt in the tank:confused: the only reason i ask is because i dont think my 5 white clouds would like the salt, so it might kill them? :good: or even shock them:eek: i definantly dont want to endanger my white clouds!

When I was breeding my guppies I never had any salt in the tank and they were fine. I really don't think one male guppy will need salt.

even fresh water fish can benefit from a little aquarium salt. Most fresh water fish can even live in brackish water. I put about a tablespoon of aquarium salt in my tanks.

I add salt to all of my tanks as well , and find that in recent years i have had little to no illness because of it . and another note , that if you raise cichlids , the salt helps with their thyroids . So in closing , salt is good for freshwater tanks . :D
