 Hello, I just purchased one male sugar glider about two weeks ago. Is he going to die from loneliness? I am a teacher and I take him to school with me in a pouch everyday. So he is with me for eight hours. When I am working at my desk I put my hand in the pouch and hold him or pet him. He is to the point that he doesn't crab when I do this. At night I play with him for about an hour or more before I go to bed while he is in his cage, it is like a game of pee-ka-boo. Is it ok to just have one? It seems to be going well.

no, he won't die of loneliness. As long as you keep spending ample time with him. Another glider would be a play friend for him since they are nocturnal, and he is up all night..but if you do get him a play friend...a female or a neutered male would do best. When they reach sexual maturity, males tend to fight over territory.

It is generally a good idea to have 2 of them...but when I got my first sugar glider..many many years ago...I only had him..and he lived to be almost 10 years old! But I spend a lot of time with him everyday....

I agree. It is better to have 2. If you can get another one then I highly suggest that you do. It would be healthier for him to have a friend of his own kind. But if you can't then it's ok. I would also spend more then one hour with him a night. 2 hours is minimum. What kind of diet do you have him on? If you need any help at all feel free to add me to your buddy list if you have msn.
