Only in photos. The recessive dilution gene (dd) that is responsible for blue (Dilute Black) gerbils is very rare. The last I read, there are no known blue gerbils in the US and only a few in the UK, with the majority being in Europe.

well I am no scientist but i have been tring to come up with a different variety of colored gerbils and behold i have one blue and white gerbil. It took me about 7 years to get my unique gerbil but I have it. I named it Wave and its about 2 months old.

I'm sure that a lot of breeders would be very excited if the 'dd' mutation had appeared in the US.

I certainly would love to see this. Get us a pic ASAP! What types were the blue's parents?

the parents were a Spotted Agouti (male) and a spotted gray (female) she was three years old when she had the blue one (Wave) and this was her fifth litter. I do know with this pair they have had a variety of colored gerbils. usually the only colored gerbils born are agouti/spotted agouti, black, and black spotted. but they have had a golden reddish one with red eyes and albino and the blue one.

Wow three years old is really old to have 5th litter pups- was it a small litter? That would be really cool if the dilute gene has shown up in one of your pups. Is Wave a boy or a girl? I'd love to see some pics!!
