:D I just got a turtle and I was wondering if anyone might have a few good suggestions for a name. It is only about an inch and a half long and it is a red-eared water turtle. He's really cute but I am stumped for a name. If anyone has any good suggestions please get back to me as soon as possible so I can stop calling him "It" Thanks!

Hi all-
I just came back from an all day excursion at Lion Country Safari (a cageless zoo in Palm Beach, Florida). The only reason I mention that is because they have a giant tortoise there who I have grown very fond of.
He is an 80 year old tortoise who is the size of a coffee table. Several months ago he was removed from the general population because he was sick with pneumonia. They had to drill through his shell to drain the lung fluid, and he has a huge fiberglass patch now. I returned often while he recovered, and I am pleased to say he is doing great.
So my favorite tortoise name is Redmond -- for my Lion Country Safari sweetie.

Better late than never. We have a box turtle named "Dude" because my daughter couldn't think of anything else. I didn't realize how much "personality" turtles have until I started caring for him. He is soooo much fun.

That depends on the species of the turtle. What species do you have? Red Ear Sliders....the green and yellow turtles with a little bit of red or yellow on its ears an adult male with have really long nails and a long tail with the vent past the end of the shell. An adlut female will have shorter tails and nails. It is impossible to tell the difference in a juvenile slider. For more turtle information go to www.austinsturtlepage.com or do a search on yahoo. I hope that helped. :)

turtles are very aquatic and they look like a shell in the water so
aqua+shell=aquell
its a neet way to come up with names like take a tortoise
it looks like a rock in the middle of the desert
desert+rock=desock:D

I think turtles/tortoises should have very noble, distinguished names. For example: Dr. Conrad Turtle, Miss Mystery Tortoiseship, Sir Nimrod Turtle, etc. What great little friends!
