hi,
I have a property, I have a name, I have the money, and now Im stuck. Where the hell do I find a pet supplies company, and pet breeders? I am strating to breed mice, hamsters, gerbils, rats and budgies, so I can have alot breeding to start filling the shop but I need reptile breeders, including geckos, bearded dragons, turtles, and maybe iguanas.

I also need to find breeders for:
- parrots
- love birds
- canaries
- chincillas
- chipmunks
- chiwawas pups
- rabbits
- cockatiels

I live in the Uk, but dont for reptiles you can import them? Any help will be so appreciated

Find the organsation that deals with each specific animal. (for example the gerbil would be the Gerbil SOciety, basicly try searching words like 'parrot club of UK, or parrot society or organsation of UK" Or do your town etc.

Why not contact rescue and see if they would bewilling to bring in some of your desired pets.

Another idea would be to put an add in the paper outlineing what you are looking for, you will probably get a lot of prank calls/emails (whichever you choose) but for those you are interested in you could meet, see how they treat thier animals etc.

Yeah those are both good ideas :) contact people and advertise. Also if you have the property allready then maybe you can put signs up etc int he window.

My friend owns a pet shop. They have been up and going for around 4 years and so far they are doing well. Like you, he bred some of the smaller and perhaps "easier" animals himself however he found breeders for repltiles, rabbits, guinea pigs and birds etc.....
As for the pet supplies i would suggest looking around on the internet! Search for companies you may have heard of and let them know that you are starting a busniess via email. These people will be very interested (after all they want to make money lol) you could also look around other pet shops and see what it's like there for ideas. Not only that but i'm sure you will see lots of company names that make cages etc and this will help you find contact information.

Anyway thats great that you can own your own pet shop! I hope everything goes well for you :)...

Oh BTW - Are you going to be a small or large place??? I am guessing not that large, so maybe iguanas aren't a good idea lol. (Unless of course you get and sell them young)

Just a thought.

I wouldn't sell the dogs also. But rather contact the chi club and rescues in your area and ask them if they would like to come and hold adoptions at your store.

I opened up a pet store about a year ago in my home town. The only other petstore around is a petland that everyone hates because of the puppymill thing. Just my .02.. I wouldn' t sell dogs or cats.. There is enough unwated ones in shelters. We sponser a couple animals from the shelter right out of our store and we get a huge respose from that. Also, try to have something that no one else has. We introduced saltwater fish to Cambridge and it has become VERY popular.. I can't keep it in. No where for about an hour and a half has saltwater..
(but if you do decide to do saltwater... do your research, its not always the easiest to start out with) And stay personal with your customers.. :)

Hopefully this helps and good luck to ya..

Try Googling the Pet Care Trust (can't think of the site addy off-hand) - they have lists of all their members which are relating to the retail trade. To get more of a feel for things try to visit GLEE (NEC, Birmingham - September) which is the big meet up for all the big retail names in the industry (and small for that matter too).
I agree with as said, don't sell dogs and don't sell reptiles unless you are an expert and have specialist knowledge in them - doing them as a sideline I can guarantee will result in two things; sick/dying animals going to unsuitable homes. To keep dogs in a shop in the UK you will require a specialisation to your Pet Shop Licence which requires Environmental Health and Veterinary inspection before animals are brought in. To be honest selling dogs in a shop really is NOT the way to go at all and is frowned down upon (rightly so) hence the reason you do not see dogs for sale in shops (or at least it's a rare thing!).
