Hi,angelfire1966
Thanks you for the previous advice and now my gerbils are happily living in their Individual home and no more of violets fighting. I have a question to be asked, do gerbils eat fruits such as orange, apple, pears, etc. If i have feed them with this "Kinds" of fruit, will they be easily be sick or have other illness?
With regards

I am so glad that they are doing better. Yes, you can feed your gerbils fruit. Just make sure it is a treat only, and not the big part of their diet. I can say for sure that they LOVE apple and pear, as I have fed gerbils both of those fruits and they had a ball. I have not tried oranges, but I figured that they where a little acidy, so decided to go with the other types. Banana's would be great too. When you feed them fruit though, make sure that you remember how little they are, and only give them small pieces. If you leave too much it could make for a messy cage, and even attrack flies or such. Let me know how they are doing from time to time. I love to hear about all the different types of pets here on petshub. marianne

That is not true.
Gerbils can eat most Fruit and Vegtables as long as they are in moderation. All fresh Fruits and Vegtables can give Diarrhea if given to much at a time, Lettus is real good for that.
Always remember to take out any un-eaten parts, so they do not mold and make your gerbils sick.

Too much veggies can give them diarrhea too. The problem with fruits and veggies is that they have a high content of water. I have given my gerbils (and other rodents) fruits and veggies in moderate quantities and have never have diarrhea problems. Offer a piece a week, leave it for just 24 hours or less and whatever is not eaten, take it out. You can opt for dry fruits and veggies instead of fresh, to be sure they don't get too much humidity, but still, it should be given in small quantities, you want your gerbils to have a balanced diet and fruits/veggies are only a treat, not a complete food for them.

Lettuce can cause diarrhea and has minimal nutritional value.
My gerbils did not care for strawberries, but LOVED blueberries - one each every two or three days.
My Syrian hamsters ate the grapes I gave them.

Mine love grapes, raisins, etc. You can feed them most fruits/veg.

Thank you very much :) My gerbils keep digging a hole on one place. Why do they do this? They are trying to dig through the plastic like crazy (but only one one spot) lol

In the corner, right? What size is the tank?
Gerbils dig through boredom, etc- giving them more things to do would stop it.
They're just following a natural instinct.

Absolutly. :)
Give them a glass jar, extra bedding or a PVC pipe with turns in it. These are all things that will keep a gerbil busy. The more bedding you provide the more they have to dig in and the less they will dig in the corner of the tank.
I actually do not have that behaviour in any of my tanks, And I belive it's becuase of all the extras I provide them.
Try it out, and tell us how it worked :)
