Dwarfs like to be together, although they do well alone aswell..u can put up to 3 in on cage, if big enough! My dwarf hamster babies will be 10 days old on the 30th, they are growing like weeds.

i don't believe you can definitely count on them not fighting, as one of my friends bought a couple and had them in a fairly big cage, and one of them attacked the other, so they had to be separated. It's worth bearing in mind, if buying cages is a financially an issue.

I have dwarves housed together. I hear them squabble every once and awhile but for the main part they do fine. I do have one pair that only like each other. If put with anyone else they fight constantly.

I once very carefully, using all the tricks I know from gerbils, tried to introduce one dwarf to another - and he went NUTS!! Screaming and attacking.
Well, on Feb. 1st I am getting (picking up) from the pet store eight babies born five weeks ago; ok, they are not babies now. They will be sexed and placed in separate tanks. I believe this is the safest way to keep a group of dwarfs - all from the same litter. There may still be some noisy squabbling, bit not fighting.

for grouping dwarves, are males or females more likely to get along?? or is there any real difference?? (like with mice??)

I am not sure about males and males and females and females, but I am sure you are aware that if you put a male and female together you run the risk of babies. ;)

hehe oh yes.. which is why i'd want same sex pairs, if i did pairs.. was just wondering if one gender tended to get along better then the other.

In dwarves females are more dominate then males, so a male couple together would work out better then 2 or 3 females in the same cage or tank. Dwarves are not solitary like syrians so they can be together, even though some dwarves just want to be alone.

male dwarves can be put together but not females, from my experience the females fight like crazy the male might engage in their "manly tussles" but at least they dont attack viciously like the females do

Well first off Holly, welcome to this site! I hope you enjoy it here :). Now, we folks on the board don't enjoy the bringing up of 1 year old posts.... So next time, either create a new thread for your question, or when replying, reply to the ones that are less then 5 days old.
When you say that one picks on the other a lot, is there blood? If not, they are just squabbling and don't need to be separated. If there is blood or bite marks, on one of them, then separate them immediatly. Also, do they sleep together? Are they both male or both female? Good luck! :D

Yes of course you can if you want babies. If you dont want any extra additions to the family - dont do it.
They can get pregnant in the blink of an eye.
