since i had sme time, decided to take sme pics for a short introduction :Mopsters:

its juz sme basic knowledge for those rearing syrians ;)

if one has to breed syrians, will have to b extremely careful wen it comes to the white bellieds or roans. as u can c, the anophthalmic white gene actually masked off their original colors n turn them into white base. we call them white bellieds if they r agoutis or blacks. those tat r of cream based colors, we name them roans.

the danger is if 2 of these r bred together, eyeless white pups will occur in the litter. on the surface, they have black eyes however wen there is light source, one can actually c a red glow in their eyes :Deal:

here's the cream dom spot ger (white bellied) :)

You have very cute hammies!!! Are they rescues? Or did they come from a pet shop? Please don't say you breed hammies!

Extremely cute hamster. I have to keep working on my BEST photos of mine (I have hundreds of .jpg's) which I will post soon, so leep an eye out.

And I do hope no one is breeding. I have 40 critters here and half are rescues.

Wel I would assume that Chipmon did breed them as it reads "Chipmon hamstery." Usually when one thinks of a 'hamstery' breeding usually comes to mind, however I could be wrong in this assumption. Since the author is describing the fur colors that way I would think that maybe he/she is a breeder. As with most hobby breedings one tries to achieve a certain attribute; color etc.

yes, i bred them. in singapore, we aint as fortunate as those residing in US/UK wer LH syrians can b easily found in petshops. so to tink of finding one of the correct type/color is even more diff :(

most of my LH syrian r actually frm own breeding litters. all parents have been selectively picked to preserve the gd traits. sme lines have even been bred up to the 4th generation ;)

unlike sme who juz get any 2 syrians n put them together 2 breed without even reading up or studying thr their genetics :faint:

Shine a light in a hamsters eye in the dark it should reflect red, just like ours when we have a flash photograph taken(red eye) when you see the developed photo. This is the retina reflection. My own hammy is blind in one eye(no red reflection) the vet says it doesn't matter as they have such poor vision anyway.

my last hamster, Sanka, developed a cataract on her right eye and showed very little difference in behavior. Only when someone she didn't recognize the scent of would approach her closely would she turn and use her better eye.
